Dr Seuss’ Daisy-Head Mayzie
This Emmy Emmy nominated special was adapted for television by Tony Collingwood from a partially completed Dr Seuss manuscript, for Hanna Barbera/The Turner Network in 1995.
“It’s hard to believe such a thing could be true, and I hope such a thing never happens to you….”
Narrated by Henry Gibson as The Cat in the Hat, this fantastical, cautionary tale tells how young Mayzie McGrew grows a daisy out of the top of her head! Her classmates can’t believe their eyes! Miss Sneetcher her teacher and headmaster Grumm are dumb-founded! Her parents are shocked beyond belief!
Only one person seems happy with this unusual turn of events and that’s Finagle, the theatrical agent – voiced by Tim Curry. Finagle spins Mayzie and her daisy into an overnight sensation, leaving Mayzie dizzy with fame. But is this really a happy ending? Alone on a hilltop, Mayzie tries to decide what really makes her happy – with just a little help from her daisy!
How poor Mayzie learns that love is more important than fame and fortune makes an endearing morality tale for our time.
Songs and music composed by Phillip Appleby.
